Mountain Folk Adventure: Who are you?!?

Hannah K. Weissenborn: I’m Hannah, 22 years old, from southern Germany, Schwäbisch Gmünd. Currently I study movie directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and hope to finally get something out of making movies for my living!

MFA: Very cool. So what has been your favorite trip?

HKW: My favorite trip was hitchhiking and couch surfing from Mexico City to southern Mexico. When I started I didn’t speak one wordof Spanish so I really got to know the feeling of what it means to be a stranger. The Mexican people appreciated so much my very poor tries to speak Spanish and helped me build my sentences word by word. Sometimes they really seemed to understand what I intended to say, despite of the fact that I just connected two words, including a lot of gesticulation. When I left after two months I had found really good friends and was able to talk to them in Spanish!!

MFA: What is your dream trip?

HKW: I’d love to climb a really high mountain and jump down parascending!

MFA: What unnecessary comfort item do you always bring on a trip?

HKW: Nail-polish and nail file.

MFA: Cosmetics! Not a bad idea. What’s the best piece of travel equipment you’ve ever owned?

HKW: A very little backpack, which can be switch to be a calipers (Fanny Pack).

MFA: What’s one travel lesson that you had to learn the hard way?

HKW: Even if you prefer to go spontaneously, that you sometimes need to plan stuff,  because sometimes unfortunately it doesn’t always work out…

MFA: What’s your favorite travel/adventure book? “Trampen.” It’s a very special book about two young hitchhiker girls who run away from home and benefit from rich guys who pay their food. It’s brave, it’s funny, and it’s encouraging and feels like freedom. But unfortunately I forgot the name of the author…

MFA: Maiken Nielsen was the author. Sounds great. What is your favorite road trip music or album?

HKW: “So Far“ from Habanot Nechama

MFA: Love that...subscribed! What is the one food you always crave after a long trip?

HKW: Bircher muesli, made from my mother.

MFA: Americans will know that as “Swiss Oatmeal.” It’s a mix of oats, apple, milk, yogurt, banana, raisins, walnuts, almonds, brown sugar, honey, and orange juice together in a bowl. Where and what was the best meal you’ve ever had?

HKW: In Laos, everything was with cilantro, chicken and spicy. I love it.

MFA: Can’t go wrong with that certainly.  And lastly, If you could go anywhere in time and space with anyone alive or dead, where would you go and who would you go with?

HKW: I would like to live for some time in New York City. And because we have always lived a couple of hours apart, I would like my boyfriend to live in the same street; enjoying New York with him would be crazy because he’s a crazy guy. New York is crazy and I would go crazy too…AND I would like to go to the Nepalese Himalayas!

MFA: Two very different, but equally enthralling destinations!

Thanks for sharing Hannah! Happy Travels!
